About the Workshop

This workshop taught by Yukimi Annand is a study of Hermann Kilian’s work with the Roman Alphabet. The workshop will start with a review of the basic structure of Versals, then move on to a tracing of several of Killian’s works with a pencil. Attendees will learn how to draw/build-up capitals by studying Killian’s work and will be encouraged to developer their own style of capitals for original calligraphy pieces.

About the Instructor

Yukimi Annand comes to us from her home in Torrance, California, where she is a calligrapher as well as a lettering and book artist. Yukimi grew up in Japan and has a graphic design (visual communication) background. She is passionate about the beauty of the Roman alphabet and creates unique artworks incorporating her love of calligraphic marks with nature. Experimenting with the usage of tools and mediums, she has expanded her world of calligraphy. Since 2012, she has taken great pleasure sharing her ideas and giving workshops all around the world.

Yukimi's works have been frequently shown in Letter Arts Review as well as other calligraphic journals and books, and they have been included in calligraphy collections in Berlin, San Francisco, and Moscow. Most recently, her Hermann Kilian (the topic of this workshop) capitals were featured on the cover of Alphabet, the journal of The Friends of Calligraphy, which is edited by Carl Rohrs.
