Workshop Policies

Pen Dragons has always prided itself on bringing top instructors to the Kalamazoo area for workshops on various calligraphic hands and techniques. Topics and instructors for workshops are selected to increase Guild members’ knowledge of and skill in lettering.

Instructors may specify a level of calligraphic experience necessary, so please read the workshop description carefully to see if it is appropriate for you.

Registration

A flyer with full workshop details will be emailed to members and posted on our web site at the start of the registration period.

Please pay close attention to deadlines in the flyer. If you are not a current member at the time the flyers are distributed, you need to wait until registration opens to non-members; a $20 non-member registration fee will be due in addition to the full tuition fee. Please note: Workshops often fill during the members-only registration period.

Registrations close approximately two weeks prior to the workshop date.

ALL registrations, by members and non-members alike, are accepted in the order in which they are received.

PAYMENT

At the time of registration, a completed registration form and payment in full is required. Verbal or electronic notification of intent does not constitute registration.

Payment must be by check made payable to ‘Pen Dragons’ or through PayPal (online payment instructions will be sent after registration). If joining the Guild at the time of registration a separate check and Membership Form (downloadable from the ‘Join The Guild’ page of this website) should be sent to the address on the form.

Registrants should consider payment to be non-refundable. Requests for refunds will be considered by the Pen Dragons Board of Directors on a case-by-case basis. (See CANCELLATIONS below).

CANCELLATIONS

During the registration period, a registrant wishing to cancel may find their own replacement or ask if a wait list exists for the workshop. In either of these situations the canceling registrant must contact the Workshop Chair and may request a return of registration fee if a replacement registrant is found; membership dues will not be refunded.

In the event of a late cancellation due to a medical or other emergency, a refund of all or part of registration fees may be requested. Any request for return of registration fees will be dealt with by the Board on an individual basis.
